My Favorite Places

By Dace Cook

I’m Dace and I am 8 years old. I am going to write about one of my favorite places that I got to spend time this last summer. Mount Fleecer and it is very close to my school in Divide. In July, I hiked almost to the top of Fleecer with my parents, brother, dogs and 3 close family friends. We hiked all the way up to what we call the snow fields. I brought a sled because I knew I was going to sled on the snow. I also brought a shovel so I could dig a snow cave. It was so hot out and I could not wait to play in the snow and cool down! When we got close to the snow I could see how tall and wide it was. Almost like a glacier on land!

After climbing around and getting on top of the snow I could see the snow formed what I thought looked like a canyon in some areas. The snow was also pink on top. I learned it was because algae was growing on it. I was so excited that I was able to go sledding in the snow in the middle of July! We spent all day up there and had a picnic. When it was time to go I was so tired and glad I only had to go downhill. I can’t wait to do it again this summer!!
