Strawberry Butte Cabin

How to get there and seasonal access: Exit I-15 at Montana City, turn to the east and travel 1/10 mile to John’s Street, then travel 4.3 miles to the intersection of road #226 and #294 then 1.8 miles on road #226 to the Strawberry Lookout Road, where you will park and walk up to the cabin 1.3 miles (about a half hour walk). In the winter; exit I-15 at Montana City, turn to the exit and travel 1/10 mile to John’s Street, travel 4.3 miles to the intersection of road #226 and road #294. Park there and walk, ski, snowmobile, or snowshoe 1.8 miles on road #226 to the Strawberry Lookout Road where you walk, ski, or snowshoe up to the cabin 1.3 miles (there is no snowmobiling on the Lookout Road). The other winter route is exit I-15 at the Clancy exit, travel south to Alhambra, turn on road #226 and travel 6 miles to the parking area for cross country skiing, snowmobiling, or snowshoeing 2.4 miles on road #226 to the Strawberry Lookout Road, then travel 1.3 miles up to the cabin.

Equipment: The cabin has four beds with mattresses, a table and chairs, cabinets, drawers, a propane fireplace, propane cook stove and lanterns. Silverware, dishes, cooking utensils, pots and pans, firewood, and cleaning gear are also available. There is no guarantee these items will be on hand. Be prepared.

Electricity: None.

Bathroom facilities: Outhouse.

Drinking water: Bring your own water to the cabin, there is no local sources of water around the cabin.

Capacity/Fee: 4 persons/$30.

Available: 10/01-05/01 (maximum stay 5 nights)

What to do in the area: There is plenty of winter outdoor recreational opportunities along with hiking, and wildlife viewing to be had along the numerous trails and roads that can be accessed within a short distance from the cabin.
