Kading Station

Kading Cabin

How to get there and seasonal access: Drive U.S. Highway 12 to the Little Blackfoot River Road just east of Elliston. From this intersection, it will be approximately 16 miles to the cabin. It is located on the right side of the road, directly across from the entrance to Kading Campground. During winter months, the Little Blackfoot River Road is plowed on a regular basis as far as Hat Creek. The county plows the road to this point and makes a space for parking. From there you will need to cross-country ski, snowshoe or snowmobile approximately 7 miles to the cabin. Access may be restricted during spring breakup.

Equipment: The cabin has four beds with mattresses, a table and four chairs, cabinets, drawers, a woodstove and propane cook stove. Propane lanterns, silverware, dishes, cooking utensils, pots and pans, firewood, axe, shovel, and cleaning gear are also available. There is no guarantee these items will be on hand. Be prepared.

Electricity: None.

Bathroom facilities: Outhouse.

Drinking water: A water spigot is located outside the cabin and operates most of the winter.

Capacity/Fee: 4 persons/$25.

Available: All year, except 4/15 to 6/1 (maximum stay 5 nights).

What to do in the area: There is plenty of hiking, fishing, as well as wildlife and wildflower viewing to be had along the numerous trails and roads that can be accessed within a short distance from the cabin. For history buffs, there are many historic mines to visit in the area, including the Forest's interpretive site—the Charter Oak Mine and Mill. (Open summer weekends, ask for a schedule.)
