Youth Forest Monitoring Program

YFMPsurveyorslevelYFMP is an intensive 7-week internship for high-school students. Participants explore hands-on forest ecology, supplement forest health analysis, engage in stewardship projects, and discover a variety of natural resource careers. The framework includes 1 week of training by forest scientists, 5 weeks of field monitoring and stewardship projects, and 1 week of final research with a written report and oral presentation as a final product.
If you are a high-school aged student (entering 9th grade in the fall through graduation), check out the application brochure here. There will be 9 spots filled for the Helena area, 3 in Lincoln, and 3 in Deer Lodge. Applications for the 2012 field season must be postmarked by April 20!
We also hire the Field Instructors who oversee the work done by the YFMP Interns. Please contact Liz Burke (lizbuke[at]fs.fed.us or (406) 495-3713) for more information or click here for the job announcement. Applications must be postmarked by March 30, 2012
